So Jesus explained himself at length. “I’m telling you this straight. The Son can’t independently do a thing, only what he sees the Father doing. What the Father does, the Son does. The Father loves the Son and includes him in everything he is doing.
“But you haven’t seen the half of it yet, for in the same way that the Father raises the dead and creates life, so does the Son. The Son gives life to anyone he chooses. Neither he nor the Father shuts anyone out. (John 5:19-21, MSG)
Jesus recognised that his role was that of a servant. A servants role is to follow closely behind the master and go where he goes. Even Jesus did not make the assumption that He knew what was best in a situation. Jesus knew the Father so well that he was keenly sensitive to divine activity around Him, immediately recognising the fathers hands as they worked.
There is a difference between bringing God into our activity, and joining Him where he is already at work. It is possible that we are sometimes too busy to see where He is already at work, and miss serving Him; we may like rather, to make his purpose to serve us. Are we viewing our surroundings from our self centred perspective, or from Gods all encompassing perspective? How is God touching her today, is He comforting, is he convicting, is he searching her out? As you know and look for God you will adjust yourself to do as God is already doing in someone else's life.
Today, Father, I lay myself before you as your servant. Fill me this morning with all of you so I may go out to the world being all of you. Make me so sensitive to your spirit that my own needs are put aside for the betterment of your kingdom. It is an honour to be here to look on as you call those you have chosen to your heart. I love you more than life, thank you for all you are. Amen.
